SANITY - Written as a challenge (5 minute poem)
Ladies and gentlemen, I have been invited to join the poetry group on this fine forum – but it seems one of the prereqs is to have TWO poems posted. Alas! I have but one up here. Threfore the question was – do I stick one of my old ones up here or do I give these lovely people something new?
So I whipped something up.
PRESENTING – One of the first poems I have written in such a long time (the ‘exasco’ poem was the first in about 2 years).
It’s a challenge one, written in 5 minutes (not kidding) – But I’m proud of it.
I decided that every sentence was going to end with a word that rhymed with day - I know, silly right? But I do love a challenge.
The result:
“Sanity”
Sanity took a walk one day
Her face was happy, bright and gay
She stopped to look the other way
To where I stood: still in dismay.
I had shout: ‘delay’, delay’
“Lets us climb again upon the hay,
Spinning, dancing, let us play!
I do not wish to die today!”
In death upon the ground I lay:
Was this the price I had to pay?
Was she demon, or was she the fay?
And why, oh why, did she go away?
It was a sunny day in May.
Her warmth had kept the dark at bay,
I whispered soft to make her stay
Her voice strung high, a violent ‘Nay’.
And shadows swept her all away.
