Travelling
We've roamed the globe together;
Climbed over the rockiest mountains,
Ambled across solitary deserts,
Swum through the most treacherous oceans.
We've seen more than I ever imagined conceivable;
Gazed over serenity itself,
Squinted through confusion's clouds,
Stared frustration in the eyes.
Bones were weakened, limb's decayed,
Hair that didn't bald faded grey.
Seasons shifted faster every year,
Generations were born, they lived, they passed away.
United we perched at the end of our voyage,
We glanced over all that had become, all that had changed,
And for the first time since sharks had learnt to swim
You looked at me.
You looked at me
With your cruel, wizened expression,
And for the first time in my existence
I was blind as you got up.
You got up and ran away,
Sprung back over those mountains,
Glided through those barren deserts,
Floated across the angry seas.
But I shall sit here and wait in the stillness.
Perhaps chasing ignorance in circles
I shall watch the planet beneath me,
And pray for just one last day.
