Opinions are Neither Right nor Right
A lot of my opinions, sadly to say, have come from other people. Someone says, that guy is a smart one; I used too without hesitation believed what they thought. It is the same thing when I’ve been made fun of. Someone tells me I’m dumb, and for some off the wall reason, I believed them. Until recently, I did not understand this key factor, that is just their opinion, and any opinion is neither right nor wrong.
Words like “dumb”, “smart”, “beautiful”, they all have different meanings to different people. Someone who is smart in my eyes may be viewed dumb in yours. Someone you find beautiful, I could find hideous. When people put you down, they are measuring you with their own yard scale. You must measure yourself with your own yard scale, with accounts to your own values and principles.
My brother, who is a very intelligent guy told me once, before I go out on stage I tell myself, “I am smarter than anyone out there”, and for him that took away his nervousness. Now in all reality, there could be people in the audience smarter than him in one area or another. The key is, my brother, on his scale values himself as smart. He doesn’t listen to anyone else, he is confident and believes in his opinions because he can defend them.
The world is filled with more opinions than facts. What is the best way to win the war or how should I dress for this event? It is all opinions. It is important to stop listening to others opinions and begin valuing your opinions more. This will improve your self-confidence level immensely, and make your world brighter. As long as you can defend your opinion, believe in them because opinions are neither wrong nor right.
