Choose Friends Carefully
Once there was a boy named Donnie. Donnie was a quiet fellow who never liked to isolate and make fun of anyone. He stuck by himself, never really talking or making friends. In 11th grade things changed, Donnie wanted friends. He started hanging around a group who had different beliefs and values than him. This group of kids made fun of people, they talked about girls in a crude manner, and did drugs.
Donnie slowly began acting like them. Started smoking pot, and now and then, chirping in about girls. One day during math class when his friend Luke was being critical over a girl in his class who was a little heavy set. Donnie went along and made a few of his own remarks, not knowing the girl was hearing everything they said. He thought what he was doing was harmless. When they looked up Donnie realized that it wasn't harmless, and was crushed by the pain in her face. Luke however laughed and continued to make comments. After class Donnie went up and apologized to this girl, and began to distance himself from Luke and the others.
Moral of the Story
For better or for worse you start to act like the people you associate with. Like the old saying goes, "lay with a dog and you will get fleas." Hang out with a crowd long enough, and their values and acceptable behavior becomes your own. Choose wisely who you hang out with.
