there are so many different types of baby making practices these days.. and theres often a huge number of people against them. and the research that branches off from the whole reproduction thing.

IVF- in vitro fertilization where they actually make a baby for a couple who cant have one. its also possible to genetically modify the genes that the baby has so you can choose what they are going to look like.

Embryonic Stem Cell- research that enables paraplegics to walk again, cures parkinsons, has the potential to cure diabetes, but requires the destruction of a human embryo.

Cloning- copying an organisms genetic material to create something exactly the same.

these are all kinds of genetic modification.. a phrase that most people only know from GM foods, but is quite a broad area in scientific research.

people will argue that by carrying out these practices, humans are trying to "play god" and create the ideal human.. a perfect race. but is what scientists are doing playing god, or making life a little easier for some people who suffer?

personally, i think that embryonic stem cell research especially should be legal in all countries. i know that what they are able to do in australia is very limited.. but seriously, when people are able to walk to their doctors and have abortions, and those embryos are being discarded, why not use them for the benefit of people who are already living?

it frustrates me because every single person iv asked says that god created us equally, and that "hes planned our life for us from when we were in the womb". why is it then, that people are so often disadvantaged with genes that guarantee they will be physically or mentally retarded/ill/ get a disease at some point in their life.


my question to you is,
if god doesnt make everything fair, why arent we at least given the freedom to TRY?

I think that stem cell research should be allowed, up to a certain extent, we dont want people living forever otherwise the world is going to become over populated, the economy will crash from trying to support all the super oldies....

i think ivf is great cause its helps people that want to have kids. i dont think its right to get to pick what they look like though.

i dont really know about the stem cell thing. its good that it heals things, but its still kinda like murder to me. i dont like abortions in the first place and that just seems like a version of it.

and i dont like cloning one bit. why would someone do that? there is a movie that does something like that and its way creepy.

but i get what you mean about the bad genes and everything. i dont understand that either. my aunt is handicapped and im always afraid that if i do have a baby they will be handicapped, even though my mom isnt and they say it isnt something inherited or whatever, i still feel like it kinda skipped barbie and her kids. just like some of the genes i got, something my grandma nana had, then my sissy, then my mom, now me. and the fact that those genes skipped my cousin bree, angie, and barbie. i dont really understand that. and thats something i dont want passed down to my daughter, ya know.

uhm that might not be what you are saying, but thats kinda how i interpreted it.

anyways, if i knew there was a way to get around that then i would definately do it. ya know. like you said... to make life easier for people that suffer. they should really do more with that.

yeah but i dont mean aborting babies to do stem cell research.. i mean using babies that have already been aborted to do stem cell research. if you dont use it to help someone, its a huge waste of a life.
